The Norman Family began their farming operation in the early 1990s with Wayne Norman of Ainsworth, Iowa. Wayne would attend Iowa State Teaching college and eventually return to Washington county and reside in the town of Washington as a hired man. Even with the task of farming at hand, Wayne was the Washington County Corn Husking Champion two years running and maintained many large roles within the community. Wayne’s son William Norman attended Iowa State College and upon returning home partnered with his father to operate and own 409 acres, comprised of cattle, swine and row crops of corn and soybeans. Wayne would become the Washington County Master Farmer in 1955 for his efforts in skillfully managing his farm and investing time and resources for family and community longevity.

In 1973, Steve joined his father William in the family farming business and continued raising corn, soy and finishing swine. In 1976 Steve Norman would marry his wife Sue and raise three children: Matt, Barbie and Mike. Upon graduating from college and enduring other industry careers, the two boys, Matt and Mike, found their way back to the family farm and established Cedar Family Farms in 2008 where they continue the legacy of producing corn, soy and finishing swine. The fifth generation and the future of Cedar Family Farms consists of seven grandchildren: Peighton, Preston, Lane, Hayden, Xander, Ryker and Zane.

Years have passed since Wayne and William Norman began their operation in the 1950s. However, the same principals have been guiding our family for over 63 years. Cedar Family Farms works to place a large emphasis on meeting and exceeding the expectations of each landowner who we manage land for today and in the future. This can be seen through our commitment to build and maintain relationships with landowners and employees, excellent operating efficiencies and sufficient working capital to conquer the recurring cycles of agriculture production.
